- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 large eggs
- ½ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel sauce)

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly until it turns a deep amber color.
- Carefully add the butter and stir until melted and combined.
- Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Be cautious as the mixture may bubble up. Stir until smooth.
- Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Let the caramel sauce cool slightly.
- Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Drizzle a portion of the caramel sauce over the top.
- Place the second cake layer on top and drizzle more caramel sauce over the top and sides of the cake.
- Allow the cake to set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.
Notes
- Store leftover cake in an airtight container.
- Reheat caramel sauce if it thickens too much.
