Description

Caramel Cake is a delightful treat for any occasion, featuring layers of moist cake and rich caramel sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for caramel sauce)
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter (for caramel sauce)
  • ½ cup heavy cream (for caramel sauce)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for caramel sauce)
  • Pinch of salt (for caramel sauce)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  9. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt the sugar, stirring constantly until it turns a deep amber color.
  10. Carefully add the butter and stir until melted and combined.
  11. Slowly pour in the heavy cream while stirring continuously. Be cautious as the mixture may bubble up. Stir until smooth.
  12. Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Let the caramel sauce cool slightly.
  13. Once the cakes are completely cooled, place one layer on a serving plate. Drizzle a portion of the caramel sauce over the top.
  14. Place the second cake layer on top and drizzle more caramel sauce over the top and sides of the cake.
  15. Allow the cake to set for a few minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • Store leftover cake in an airtight container.
  • Reheat caramel sauce if it thickens too much.
