Description
A rich and creamy topping for your desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 oz cream cheese, softened
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1–2 tablespoons milk (as needed for consistency)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and unsalted butter. Using an electric mixer, beat on medium speed until the mixture is smooth and creamy, about 2-3 minutes.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and unsweetened cocoa powder to the cream cheese mixture. Mix on low speed until the dry ingredients are incorporated, then increase to medium speed until fully combined.
- Add the vanilla extract and 1 tablespoon of milk to the frosting. Beat on medium speed until the frosting is light and fluffy. If the frosting is too thick, add an additional tablespoon of milk to reach your desired consistency.
- Once the frosting is ready, use a spatula or a piping bag to spread or pipe the chocolate cream cheese frosting onto your cooled cake or cupcakes.
Notes
- Store any leftover frosting in the refrigerator.
- Bring the frosting to room temperature before using it again.
