Description
A simple and satisfying homemade delight.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
- 1 1/2 cups warm water (about 110°F)
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, salt, and instant yeast. Stir until well mixed.
- Gradually add the warm water to the dry ingredients, mixing with a wooden spoon or your hands until a shaggy dough forms. Ensure all the flour is incorporated.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a clean kitchen towel and let it sit at room temperature for about 12 to 18 hours. The dough should double in size and be bubbly on the surface.
- After the dough has risen, lightly flour a clean surface and turn the dough out onto it. With floured hands, gently shape the dough into a ball, being careful not to deflate it too much. Place the shaped dough on a floured piece of parchment paper and cover it with a towel. Let it rest for about 1 to 2 hours, or until it has puffed up again.
- About 30 minutes before baking, place a Dutch oven (with the lid) in the oven and preheat to 450°F (232°C).
- Once the oven is preheated, carefully remove the Dutch oven. Lift the parchment paper with the dough and place it into the hot pot. Cover with the lid. Bake for 30 minutes covered, then remove the lid and bake for an additional 15 to 20 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and crusty.
- Carefully remove the bread from the Dutch oven and transfer it to a wire rack to cool for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
Notes
- Enjoy your Crusty Bread as a perfect accompaniment for soups, salads, or just with butter.
