Description

Easy Homemade Focaccia Bread: 5 Steps to Heavenly Flavor

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 3/4 cups warm water (about 110°F)
  • 1/4 cup olive oil, plus more for drizzling
  • Fresh herbs (such as rosemary or thyme), for topping
  • Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Combine Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, instant yeast, sugar, and salt.
  2. Add Water and Oil: Pour in the warm water and 1/4 cup of olive oil. Mix until a sticky dough forms.
  3. Knead Dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First Rise: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours, or until doubled in size.
  5. Prepare Baking Pan: Grease a baking sheet or a large baking dish with olive oil.
  6. Shape Dough: Once risen, punch down the dough and transfer it to the prepared baking pan. Stretch it out to fit the pan, dimpling the surface with your fingers.
  7. Second Rise: Cover the dough again and let it rise for another 30-45 minutes.
  8. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  9. Add Toppings: Drizzle the surface with olive oil, sprinkle with fresh herbs, and coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  11. Cool: Remove from the oven and let the focaccia cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring it to a wire rack.
  12. Serve: Slice and serve warm, perfect for dipping in olive oil or enjoying on its own.
