Description

Easy Sponge Cake is a simple and delightful dessert that is light and fluffy.


Ingredients

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Powdered sugar (for dusting, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the eggs and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on high speed for about 5-7 minutes, until thick and pale.
  3. In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gently fold the dry ingredients into the egg mixture, being careful not to deflate the batter. Drizzle in the melted butter and add the vanilla extract, folding gently until just combined.
  4. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Once baked, let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  5. Once cooled, dust the top with powdered sugar if desired, slice, and serve.
