- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup whole milk
- 3 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened (for frosting)
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- ¼ cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract (for frosting)
- Food coloring (optional)

Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Gradually add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Remove from the oven and let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
- Gradually add the powdered sugar and heavy cream, mixing until smooth and fluffy. Add the vanilla extract and mix until well combined.
- If desired, add food coloring to achieve your preferred color and mix until evenly colored.
- Once the cakes are completely cool, level the tops with a knife if necessary.
- Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of frosting on top. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
- Use edible decorations to enhance the appearance of your cake as desired.
