Description

Martha Stewart’s Classic Vanilla Cake is a timeless treat for any occasion.


Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together with an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Start and end with the flour mixture, mixing just until combined. Do not overmix.
  6. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn them out onto wire racks to cool completely. Once cooled, frost with your favorite icing and serve.
