Description
White Sponge Cake is a light and fluffy dessert perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour an 8-inch round cake pan or line it with parchment paper.
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and granulated sugar together using an electric mixer on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then, mix in the vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Allow the cake to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack to cool completely. Once cooled, you can frost or serve the cake plain with a dusting of powdered sugar.
