Ingredients

  • 3-4 pounds top sirloin steak cut into 1-inch cubes, fat trimmed
  • 1 packet au jus gravy mix
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 4 tablespoons butter sliced into pats
  • 1 cup beef broth low-sodium preferred
  • chopped parsley optional, for garnish

Equipment

  • Slow cooker or Crockpot
  • cutting board
  • sharp knife

Method

  1. Trim excess fat and gristle from the steak, then cut into even 1-inch cubes.
  2. Place steak cubes in the bottom of your slow cooker in an even layer.
  3. Sprinkle au jus mix and onion soup mix evenly over the meat.
  4. Place butter pats on top of the steak pieces.
  5. Pour beef broth evenly over all the ingredients.
  6. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 6 hours or HIGH for 3 to 4 hours until meat is fork-tender.
  7. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve over mashed potatoes, rice, or noodles.

Notes

Top sirloin gives the best results, but chuck roast or flat iron steak works too. Don't overcrowd the crockpot. Trim excess fat for best texture. Low and slow yields the most tender results.
