Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add the wheat bran and buttermilk, stirring until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in raisins or nuts if using.
  5. Prepare a muffin tin by lining it with paper liners or greasing it. Fill each muffin cup about two-thirds full with batter.
  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the muffins cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
