- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
- In another bowl, whisk together the brown sugar, vegetable oil, egg, and vanilla extract until smooth. Add the wheat bran and buttermilk, stirring until well combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in raisins or nuts if using.
- Prepare a muffin tin by lining it with paper liners or greasing it. Fill each muffin cup about two-thirds full with batter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the muffins cool in the pan for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
