Ingredients

  • 3-4 boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • Olive oil for brushing
  • Salt and pepper to season the chicken
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp ground black pepper

Equipment

  • oven
  • Rimmed baking dish
  • Small bowl
  • whisk

Method

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F. Spray a rimmed baking dish with non stick spray or line with foil for easy cleanup.
  2. Pat chicken breasts dry. Brush both sides with olive oil and season generously with salt and pepper.
  3. In a small bowl, whisk together brown sugar, water, garlic powder, dried thyme, salt, and pepper until sugar dissolves.
  4. Place chicken in the baking dish and pour the sauce evenly over the top.
  5. Bake uncovered for 20-25 minutes until internal temperature reaches 165°F.
  6. Let rest for 5 minutes before serving. Drizzle pan sauce over the chicken.

Notes

For a stronger garlic flavor, substitute garlic powder with 2 minced cloves. The sauce is designed to be thin for drizzling over rice or sides.
