Frosting Ingredients

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Softened, for creamy frosting.
  • 4 cups Powdered sugar Sweetens the frosting.
  • 2 tablespoons Milk Adjusts frosting consistency.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Adds flavor to the frosting.
  • 1 drop Food coloring Optional, for decoration.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 3-5 minutes.
  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the flour mixture to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Mix until just combined.
  • Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Smooth the tops with a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
  • To make the frosting, beat softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and milk, mixing until smooth and fluffy. Stir in vanilla extract.
  • If desired, divide the frosting and add food coloring to create different shades.
  • Once the cakes are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate. Spread a layer of frosting on top, then add the second layer.
  • Use the remaining frosting to cover the top and sides of the cake. Decorate as desired.
