- In a large resealable plastic bag or shallow dish, combine all marinade ingredients. Add chicken thighs, ensuring they are well coated. Seal the bag or cover the dish and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, preferably overnight.
- While the chicken marinates, prepare the Char Siu sauce by pouring the remaining marinade into a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle boil over medium heat and simmer for 5-10 minutes until thickened. Set aside.
- Preheat your grill or oven to 375°F (190°C). Remove the chicken from the marinade, allowing excess to drip off. Grill for 6-7 minutes on each side or bake for 25-30 minutes, basting with the prepared sauce halfway through cooking.
- Once cooked, let the chicken rest for a few minutes. Slice into strips and drizzle with reserved Char Siu sauce. Garnish with sesame seeds and chopped green onions before serving.
