Ingredients
  

For the Cake:

  • 1 3/4 cups All-purpose flour Provides structure to the cake.
  • 3/4 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder Adds rich chocolate flavor.
  • 2 cups Granulated sugar Sweetens the cake.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking powder Helps the cake rise.
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking soda Also helps the cake rise.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Enhances flavor.
  • 2 large Eggs Provides moisture and structure.
  • 1 cup Whole milk Adds moisture.
  • 1/2 cup Vegetable oil Keeps the cake moist.
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract Adds flavor.
  • 1 cup Boiling water Makes the batter thin and moist.

For the Frosting:

  • 1 cup Unsalted butter Softened for easy mixing.
  • 3 1/2 cups Powdered sugar Sweetens and thickens the frosting.
  • 1/2 cup Unsweetened cocoa powder Adds chocolate flavor to the frosting.
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt Balances sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract Enhances flavor.
  • 1/4 cup Heavy cream Adjust for desired consistency.

For Garnish:

  • to taste Chocolate shavings or sprinkles For decoration.
  • to taste Fresh strawberries Optional, for garnish.

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a large mixing bowl, sift together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla to the dry ingredients. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  • Stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth. It will be thin.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared pans.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Cool the cakes in the pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  • For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, mixing on low speed.
  • Add salt, vanilla, and heavy cream. Beat on high speed for about 3 minutes until fluffy.
  • Place one layer of cake on a serving plate. Spread frosting on top, then place the second layer on top and frost the top and sides.
  • Garnish with chocolate shavings or sprinkles and fresh strawberries if desired.
