Method
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add this to the wet ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
- Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 9-11 minutes, until the edges are golden brown and the centers are soft.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
Notes
Ensure butter and eggs are at room temperature for best results. Use the spoon-and-level method for measuring flour.
