Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Prepare two 9-inch round cake pans by lining the bottoms with parchment paper and spraying the sides with non-stick cooking spray.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add the milk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until smooth.
  • Gradually stir in the boiling water until well combined. The batter will be thin.
  • Pour the batter evenly into the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then invert onto cooling racks to cool completely.
  • To make the frosting, beat the softened butter and cocoa powder together until smooth.
  • Gradually add the powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk, mixing until you reach the desired consistency.
  • Once the cakes are completely cool, frost the top of one layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides of the cake.
  • Slice and serve your delicious chocolate cake!
