Meat Sauce Ingredients

  • 15 oz Tomato Sauce For added richness.
  • 6 oz Tomato Paste Thickens the sauce and intensifies the flavor.
  • 1/2 cup Beef Broth To adjust the sauce's consistency.

Cheese Mixture Ingredients

  • 15 oz Ricotta Cheese For a creamy layer.
  • 1 large Egg Binds the ricotta mixture together.
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese, grated Adds a nutty flavor to the cheese mixture.

Lasagna Assembly Ingredients

  • 12-15 pieces Lasagna Noodles Cooked according to package instructions.

Instructions
 

  • In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking it up as it browns. Drain excess fat.
  • Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the meat mixture. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion softens.
  • Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and beef broth. Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs. Let simmer uncovered for 20-30 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan, and parsley. Season with salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  • Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and lay flat on a baking sheet.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with meat sauce and mozzarella.
  • Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
