- In a large skillet or pot, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium heat, breaking it up as it browns. Drain excess fat.
- Add the chopped onion and minced garlic to the meat mixture. Sauté for 2-3 minutes until the onion softens.
- Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, and beef broth. Season with salt, pepper, and optional herbs. Let simmer uncovered for 20-30 minutes.
- In a mixing bowl, combine ricotta cheese, egg, grated Parmesan, and parsley. Season with salt and pepper. Mix until smooth.
- Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions. Drain and lay flat on a baking sheet.
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). In a 9x13-inch baking dish, spread a thin layer of meat sauce. Layer noodles, ricotta mixture, meat sauce, and mozzarella. Repeat until all ingredients are used, finishing with meat sauce and mozzarella.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20-25 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Let the lasagna rest for 10-15 minutes before slicing and serving.
