Ingredients

  • 2 pounds beef sirloin cut into 2-inch strips
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder or to taste
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 cube beef bouillon
  • 1/4 cup hot water
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup onion chopped
  • 2 large green bell peppers roughly chopped
  • 1 14.5 ounce can stewed tomatoes with liquid
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 teaspoon white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Equipment

  • large skillet
  • Slow cooker (Crock Pot)
  • mixing bowl

Method

  1. Sprinkle the beef sirloin strips with garlic powder to add flavor.
  2. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear the beef strips for about 5 minutes on each side until browned.
  3. Transfer the seared beef strips to your slow cooker.
  4. In a separate bowl, mix the beef bouillon cube with hot water until it dissolves. Then add the cornstarch and stir until dissolved.
  5. Pour the dissolved mixture into the slow cooker with the beef. Add in the onions, green bell peppers, stewed tomatoes (with their juice), soy sauce, sugar, and salt. Stir everything together gently.
  6. Cover the crock pot and cook on High for 3-4 hours or on Low for 6-8 hours.

Notes

Searing the beef locks in hearty flavors. Dissolve cornstarch completely to avoid clumps. Let slow cooker work its magic for tender beef. Can adjust garlic powder to taste.
