Filling Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground lamb (or ground beef) Main protein for the filling.
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped Adds flavor to the filling.
  • 2 medium Carrots, diced Provides sweetness and texture.

  • 1 cup Frozen peas Adds color and sweetness.
  • 2 tablespoons Tomato paste Adds richness to the filling.
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce Enhances umami flavor.
  • 1 cup Beef broth Moistens the filling.

  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil For sautéing vegetables.

Mashed Potato Ingredients

  • 2 lbs Potatoes, peeled and cubed Base for the mashed potato topping.
  • 1/2 cup Milk For creaminess in mashed potatoes.
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter Adds richness to the mashed potatoes.
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning the mashed potatoes.

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add chopped onion and diced carrots, sauté for about 5 minutes until soft.
  • Add ground lamb or beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a wooden spoon. Brown the meat for about 5-7 minutes.
  • Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute. Add tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, thyme, rosemary, salt, and pepper. Simmer for about 10 minutes.
  • Mix in frozen peas and remove from heat.
  • In a separate pot, boil salted water and add cubed potatoes. Cook until tender, about 15-20 minutes.
  • Drain potatoes and return to the pot. Add milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). In a baking dish, spread the meat filling evenly. Spoon mashed potatoes over the filling, spreading evenly.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
