Instructions
Activate the yeast by combining warmed milk and sugar in a bowl. Sprinkle yeast over the top and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
In a large mixing bowl, combine the yeast mixture with melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Stir until well combined.
In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Gradually add to the wet ingredients, stirring until a dough forms.
Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the filling mixture evenly over the dough, leaving a small border.
Roll the dough tightly from one long side to the other, forming a log. Pinch the ends to seal and shape into a circle. Place on a greased baking sheet and let rise for another 30-45 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the cake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown. Let cool on a wire rack.
Prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Drizzle over the cooled cake and decorate with colored sugars.
If desired, hide a plastic baby figurine inside the cake before serving. Slice and enjoy with family and friends!
