Ingredients
  

Meat Filling

  • 1 tablespoon Olive oil For sautéing vegetables.
  • 1 medium Onion, finely chopped Adds flavor to the filling.
  • 2 medium Carrots, diced Provides sweetness and texture.
  • 2 stalks Celery, diced Adds crunch and flavor.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Enhances the overall flavor.
  • 1 pound Ground beef or lamb Main protein source.
  • 1 tablespoon Tomato paste Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 cup Beef broth For moisture and flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce Enhances the savory taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme Adds aromatic flavor.

  • 1 cup Frozen peas Adds color and sweetness.

Mashed Potatoes

  • 2 pounds Potatoes, peeled and cut into chunks For the creamy topping.
  • 1/2 cup Milk For creaminess.
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted butter Adds richness.
  • to taste Salt and pepper For seasoning.
  • 1/2 cup Shredded cheddar cheese Optional, for topping.

Instructions
 

  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add onion, carrots, and celery. Sauté for 5-7 minutes until softened.
  • Add minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • Increase heat to medium-high and add ground beef or lamb. Cook for 5-6 minutes until browned.
  • Stir in tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.
  • Add frozen peas and remove from heat.
  • In a large pot, cover potatoes with cold water and bring to a boil. Cook for 15-20 minutes until tender.
  • Drain potatoes and return to pot. Add milk, butter, salt, and pepper. Mash until smooth and creamy.
  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Spread meat filling in a baking dish, then top with mashed potatoes. Smooth out the top and sprinkle with cheese if desired.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until the top is golden brown and bubbling.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving.
