- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add finely chopped onion and sauté for 3-4 minutes until soft and translucent.
- Add minced garlic to the skillet and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
- Add ground beef to the skillet, breaking it apart with a spatula. Cook until browned and no longer pink, about 5-7 minutes. Drain excess fat if necessary.
- Sprinkle taco seasoning mix over the beef, pour in water, and stir to combine. Allow to simmer for 5 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- While the beef simmers, prepare taco shells. For hard shells, preheat oven and warm them for 5-7 minutes. For soft tortillas, warm in a skillet or microwave.
- Assemble tacos by spooning the seasoned beef mixture into each taco shell. Add toppings: shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, avocado, sour cream, and cilantro.
