- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and white sugar until smooth and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter and sugar mixture, and beat until well blended.
- Gradually blend the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until the dough comes together.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into small balls and place them on ungreased cookie sheets.
- Flatten each ball of dough using the bottom of a glass and sprinkle colored sugar or sprinkles on top.
- Refrigerate the cookie sheets for about 10-15 minutes.
- Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 8 to 10 minutes until golden around the edges.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
