Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 cup fresh spinach finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Olive oil for cooking
  • 4 burger buns
  • Optional toppings lettuce, tomato slices, extra cheese

Equipment

  • Large mixing bowl
  • Skillet (nonstick recommended)
  • Spatula
  • meat thermometer
  • Plate for resting

Method

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine ground chicken, spinach, cheddar cheese, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and black pepper. Mix gently with your hands until evenly combined, being careful not to overwork the meat.
  2. Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape them into firm, evenly sized patties about 3/4 inch thick.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and drizzle with olive oil to coat the bottom.
  4. Place the patties in the hot skillet and cook for 5-6 minutes on the first side without moving them.
  5. Flip the patties carefully and cook for another 5-6 minutes on the second side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F (75°C) when checked with a meat thermometer.
  6. Transfer cooked patties to a plate and let them rest for 3-4 minutes before serving.
  7. Assemble the burgers by placing the patties on buns with your favorite toppings. Serve and enjoy.

Notes

Ground chicken must reach 165°F for food safety. Mix gently to avoid overworking. Let patties rest after cooking to retain juices. Can substitute white cheddar with mozzarella, feta, Gouda, or pepper jack. For gluten-free: use gluten-free breadcrumbs or almond flour and gluten-free buns. Can be grilled: preheat grill to medium heat, lightly oil grates, cook 5-6 minutes per side.
